Website Launch

What happens if something goes wrong during launch?

A calm explanation of what happens if a launch does not behave as expected and what the customer should do next.

Unexpected issues can occasionally happen during a website launch, particularly where third-party domain, DNS, hosting or email services are involved. If something appears wrong, Toolbelt Websites will investigate the issue and work through the safest next step.

What kind of issue might I notice?

You might still see the old website, a page may not load as expected, HTTPS may not appear correctly yet, or a contact route may need checking. Some apparent problems can also be caused by DNS propagation or local caching rather than the new website itself.

What will Toolbelt Websites do?

Toolbelt Websites checks the public website and investigates the relevant domain, DNS or hosting factors needed to understand the problem. Where appropriate, launch settings can be corrected or adjusted without requiring the customer to experiment with live configuration.

Is the old website lost immediately?

Normally, the previous website can still exist on the old hosting during the transition even after the domain starts pointing elsewhere. That is one reason old hosting should not be cancelled prematurely.

What should I do?

Contact Toolbelt Websites support and describe what you are seeing. Avoid independently changing DNS, nameservers or hosting settings while the issue is being investigated, because multiple simultaneous changes can make the cause harder to identify.

Do not panic and start changing settings. If the website looks wrong during launch, report it first so the existing configuration can be checked safely.
