Toolbelt Websites may occasionally need access to the account that manages your domain so a specific domain or DNS change can be completed for your website project. If access is required, Toolbelt Websites will explain what is needed.
Why might domain access be required?
A website launch can involve updating DNS records or nameservers so your domain points to the correct website. Those settings are often controlled through the domain provider's account.
Access is not required for every project. Do not change domain settings simply because a new website is being built.
What is the best way to provide access?
If your domain provider supports additional users, delegated access or account permissions, creating separate access for Toolbelt Websites is preferable to sharing the main account login.
Where separate access is not available, follow the secure access instructions supplied for your project rather than sending passwords through ordinary email, SMS or chat messages.
Important: never approve unexpected login requests or security prompts. If you are unsure whether a request genuinely came from Toolbelt Websites, contact support before taking action.
What should I check before providing access?
- Confirm which domain needs to be worked on.
- Make sure the account is the one that actually controls the domain or its DNS.
- Use separate-user access if the provider offers it.
- Do not alter unrelated DNS, email or security settings.
If the difference between the domain and the website is unclear, see what a domain name is.
What if I do not know who manages my domain?
