A website, a domain and business email often work together, but they do not necessarily live with the same provider. That distinction matters during a website change.
Website hosting and email are not necessarily the same
Your website may be hosted with one company while email is handled by another service. In other cases, the website and mailboxes may both sit inside the same hosting account.
This is why changing a website should not begin with blindly replacing domain settings. Existing email records and dependencies need to be understood first.
Tell Toolbelt Websites during onboarding
If you already use addresses such as info@yourbusiness.co.uk or enquiries@yourbusiness.co.uk, tell Toolbelt Websites during onboarding. If you know the email provider, include that as well.
You do not need to diagnose the setup yourself. We mainly need to know that a working email service exists so it can be considered before launch.
Preserving an existing email service
Where an existing email service is working properly, the normal aim is to preserve it while connecting the new website correctly. Some setups are straightforward; others may require access or an action from the customer, current provider or email administrator.
For more detail, see Will changing my website affect email?, Does moving a website affect email hosting? and Will email keep working during website launch?
What if I do not know where email is hosted?
That is common. Tell Toolbelt Websites what email addresses you use and any provider information you do have. We can help investigate the setup as far as reasonably possible and explain what information or access is still needed.
Do not cancel an old hosting or email account just because you are getting a new website. It may still contain the mailboxes the business depends on.
What if I am starting from scratch?
If you do not yet have a domain or business email setup, email accounts may be able to be configured as part of the setup where applicable. The exact arrangement depends on the service being set up for the business.
Setting email up on your own devices
Once an email account exists, customers remain responsible for adding and configuring it on their own phones, computers, email applications and other personal devices or platforms unless something different has been separately agreed.
Toolbelt Websites can explain the website/domain side of the setup, but we cannot directly manage every personal device a customer uses.
