Use this guide only when Toolbelt Websites has asked you to update a specific A record in a Cloudflare-managed DNS zone. Have the IP address supplied to you by Toolbelt Websites ready before you begin.
Before editing
An A record points a hostname to an IPv4 address. If you are unsure which record has been requested, read What is an A record? and do not guess.
Update the A record in Cloudflare
- Sign in to the Cloudflare dashboard ↗.
- Select the correct domain.
- Open DNS → Records.
- Find the exact A record Toolbelt Websites has asked you to change and select Edit.
- In the record's content/value field, enter the IP address supplied to you by Toolbelt Websites.
- Check the Proxy status. Use the setting specifically instructed by Toolbelt Websites; do not change it merely because an orange or grey cloud is visible.
- Leave the hostname and TTL unchanged unless your instructions say otherwise.
- Select Save.
Do not guess the proxy setting
For supported records, Proxied and DNS only are not interchangeable cosmetic options. They change how Cloudflare handles traffic. If the requested configuration does not specify which setting to use, ask Toolbelt Websites support before changing it.
After the update
Cloudflare applies DNS record changes across its network, but caches outside Cloudflare and local browser/device behaviour can still affect when you see the new destination. See What is DNS propagation? and How long do DNS changes take?.
Do not edit unrelated A, AAAA, CNAME, MX or TXT records while you are here.
