How do I change my nameservers in Fasthosts?

A provider-specific guide for changing nameservers on a domain registered through Fasthosts without altering unrelated DNS settings.

This guide applies when the domain itself is registered with Fasthosts. Fasthosts currently provides nameserver management through its Control Panel. If the domain is registered elsewhere, change the nameservers at that other registrar instead.

Before you start

Have the exact nameserver details supplied to you by Toolbelt Websites ready. Changing authoritative nameservers can affect the website, business email, verification records and other DNS-connected services.

Change nameservers in Fasthosts

  1. Sign in to the Fasthosts Control Panel ↗.
  2. Open Domain Names from the Hosting & Domains area.
  3. Select the domain you want to update.
  4. Open the domain's current Nameservers control. Fasthosts' support area currently provides a dedicated “Changing a domain's nameservers” flow from the Control Panel.
  5. Choose the option to use the nameserver values you have been supplied, then enter the exact nameserver details supplied by Toolbelt Websites.
  6. Check the values carefully and save/confirm the change.

If your Fasthosts screen uses different wording

Fasthosts updates its Control Panel over time. If you can find the domain but the nameserver control is labelled differently from the wording above, use the current Fasthosts support guidance linked below or contact Toolbelt Websites support before changing anything. Do not use Advanced DNS record controls as a substitute for changing authoritative nameservers.

Protect email and other DNS services

A nameserver change can move control of the whole DNS zone. Make sure the destination DNS setup preserves the records required by your website, email and other services.

Do not delete MX, TXT, SPF, DKIM or DMARC records by trial and error. See Will changing my website affect my email?.

After the change

Nameserver changes are not always visible everywhere immediately. Cached DNS information can mean different networks temporarily see different results. See What is DNS propagation?.
