FTP and SFTP connection details are created or supplied by the hosting provider. There is no universal hostname, username or password that works across different hosts.
Which details am I looking for?
Depending on the provider and protocol, you may need:
- Host or server: the server name used for the connection;
- Username: the account permitted to access the files;
- Port: the connection port specified by the provider;
- Password or key: the credential used to authenticate;
- Protocol: whether the account uses FTP, SFTP or another supported method.
Where can I find them?
- Check the hosting dashboard for sections such as FTP Accounts, SFTP, SSH, File Access or Connection Details.
- If your host uses cPanel, look under the Files or Security areas for the features enabled by your provider.
- Search the original hosting welcome email.
- Use the hosting provider's official documentation or support if the details are not shown clearly.
Do not guess connection values
Do not substitute a domain name, IP address, username or port from another website. Use only the values shown for the correct hosting account.
