Getting Started

What happens after I become a Toolbelt Websites customer?

Once you become a Toolbelt Websites customer, the process is designed to be straightforward: tell us about the business, let us build the website, review the prototype and then move towards launch.

Buying a website should not create a second job for you. You do not need to understand web design, development, hosting or technical terminology before Toolbelt Websites can get started.

The process is managed for you. Your main responsibility is to give us accurate information about the business and to review the finished prototype carefully before launch.

1. Complete the onboarding form

After you sign up, you are directed to an onboarding form. This is where you give Toolbelt Websites the information and materials needed to build around your real business rather than assumptions.

That might include your services, service areas, contact details, logo, photographs, social profiles, existing website and information about your domain or current hosting. See What information do I need to provide for my new website? for the full practical list.

2. Toolbelt Websites reviews what you send

We review the onboarding submission before building. If something important is unclear or missing, we may need to come back to you. You do not need to turn rough notes into polished website copy first; we can structure and improve the material for the website.

3. We build the website privately

Your new website is normally built privately as a prototype. If you already have a live website, it would normally remain untouched while the replacement is being built.

Toolbelt Websites aims to have the prototype ready for review within approximately seven business days where the information needed to build it is available. This is an aim rather than an unconditional guarantee. See How long will my new website take to build?.

4. You review the prototype

When the prototype is ready, we send you a private review link. This is your opportunity to look through the website and, importantly, check the facts that only you can properly verify: phone numbers, email addresses, services, prices, accreditations, opening hours and other business-specific claims.

You are not expected to become the designer. The purpose of the review is to make sure the website represents the business accurately and that any genuine corrections or required changes are captured clearly.

5. We complete the final revision round

The normal build process includes one round of final revisions. The easiest way to use it well is to review the prototype carefully, gather your feedback together and send one clear set of changes.

See How does the prototype and revision process work? for more detail.

6. The website moves towards launch

Once the prototype and final revisions are agreed, Toolbelt Websites prepares the website for launch. The exact launch work depends on whether you already have a domain, website, email or hosting arrangement, but the technical work is managed rather than handed back to you as a checklist of web-development tasks.

If you already have a website, see What happens if I already have a website?. For the launch itself, the Website Launch section explains what to expect when the new site goes live.

What do you need to do?

Give us accurate information, provide the assets you have, respond when we genuinely need something from you and review the prototype carefully. Toolbelt Websites handles the website work around that information.

You do not need perfect copy, technical knowledge or a folder containing every possible asset before you can start. The aim is a managed process with as little unnecessary hassle as possible.
