What is Google Analytics?

Google Analytics 4, usually shortened to GA4, is Google's current analytics platform for understanding how people use a website.

What can Google Analytics show?

Depending on how tracking is configured, Analytics can help you understand users, traffic sources, pages viewed, engagement and useful actions or events on the website. It is designed to answer questions about website usage rather than simply where you rank in Google.

Analytics is not Search Console

Google Analytics focuses on what visitors do on the website. Google Search Console focuses on how the site appears and performs in Google Search, including queries, impressions, clicks and indexing information.

Does Analytics tell me who every visitor is?

No. Analytics reports aggregated and event-based website usage; it is not a list of the names of everyone who visited your site.

How does Toolbelt Websites use it?

Current Toolbelt Websites managed website packages include Google Analytics 4. The exact events and reports available depend on the website and what has been configured.
