Google & SEO

What is SEO?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation. In simple terms, it is the work involved in helping search engines understand a website and helping the right people find useful pages when they search.

SEO is not a trick

Good SEO is not about manipulating Google or repeating keywords as many times as possible. It combines useful content, clear website structure, sound technical foundations and signals that help search engines understand what a business offers.

What can SEO involve?

SEO can include page titles and headings, service content, internal links, mobile usability, crawlability, local business information, relevant mentions and links from other websites, and ongoing improvements based on what customers actually search for.

A simple trades example

A plumber in Swansea may want the website to clearly explain boiler repairs, emergency plumbing and bathroom installations, while also making clear which areas the business genuinely serves. Dedicated, useful pages can make those services easier for customers and search engines to understand.

SEO is ongoing

A strong website gives you a foundation, not a guaranteed position. Competition, location, reputation, content and many other signals change over time. See How long does SEO take? and What can I do to help my website rank better?.
