cPanel is a web-based hosting control panel. Many hosting companies use it to give customers one place to manage parts of their hosting account.
What might I see inside cPanel?
The exact features depend on the hosting provider, but cPanel can include areas for:
- website files and File Manager;
- domains and subdomains;
- databases;
- email accounts;
- backups;
- FTP accounts and other hosting tools.
Not every provider enables every cPanel feature, and some hosting companies use a completely different control panel.

If an existing website is hosted in cPanel, access may sometimes help Toolbelt Websites review or work with the website files, database or hosting configuration required for the project. It is not required for every website.
If access is needed, provide only the account or permissions requested. Where possible, use separate or delegated access rather than sharing an unrelated master account.
Does every hosting provider use cPanel?
No. cPanel is common, but many providers have their own dashboards. If your hosting account does not mention cPanel, that does not mean anything is wrong.
